Traditional Fireplaces and its Modern Worth

In the simplest sense of the word, a fireplace can be thought of as a place for fire. It finds great use inside homes since it can contain fire that’s usually hard to control. There are many different kinds of fireplaces depending on its intended use. It can be an outdoor or indoor type, elaborate or simple, and open or enclosed kind. But regardless of what the design and type a fireplace is, it will most likely serve the general purpose of producing heat for warmth and for cooking. Besides that, it can also create a beautiful environment inside the home giving it a comfy ambiance.

When we say fireplace, we are most familiar with the ones we typically see inside living rooms. These types of fireplaces are the indoor wall mounted types of fireplace. There may be variations with this type of fireplace but it is usually made up of stone, cement, brick, ceramic or a combination of the aforementioned materials. These fireplaces are also surrounded by a mantle, usually of marble, metal or wood, and are the ones that are usually tapped for designing purposes.

There are also traditional old wood fire places that became famous since the medieval days. For the modern home, this type of fireplace gives it an aesthetic appeal to visitors. Gas Log fireplaces also are famous for those who want the aesthetic feel to come with a little functionality as these traditional fireplaces look authentically historic, but at the same time can be operated by a remote control. The Gas log fireplaces come in two kinds: the vented ones and the vent-free models.

I’m looking for a TV show that aired in January 2007 that featured a patio makeover. Can you help me find it?

It was a single woman who was ready to move because she didn’t have any privacy on her backyard patio. They ended up putting a screen-wall in between her patio and the neighbors. This screen-wall was different because they built in a fireplace-look to it by putting a stained glass window above a mantle and then bought a fireplace front to put under the mantle. In the “faux” fireplace, I believe they put that wavy glass. On both sides of the “fireplace” they built the wall out but left open spaces in between the frame for her to hang outdoor lamps. They bought the fireplace front at an antique store I believe. It was a beautiful way to get privacy and yet have a unique look of a fireplace.

I remember this episode with Joe Washington on Ground Breakers airing on HGTV. But, the hubby thinks it was Rick Kaldrovics on Landscape Solutions. Check those shows on the HGTV website and I think you will find the details. The lady lived in Atlanta in a cluster house neighborhood. Totally awesome makeover.
