Enjoy The Warmth Of An Easy-To-Use Gas Fireplace

The great thing about a gas fireplace is that no matter what size home you live in, be it a large Victorian mansion or a small apartment, you’re sure to have enough space available. Gas fireplaces are offered in so many designs, you will easily find one that suits your lifestyle as well as the style of décor you have in your home.

Surveys have recently shown that one of the most commonly anticipated features when purchasing a new home is that of a fireplace. Gas fireplaces, unlike traditional wood-burning ones, provide a wonderful, radiant heat throughout the room in which it’s placed, whether it be a family room, kitchen, dining room or bedroom. You might choose a more traditional terracotta finish or a modern feeling brushed steel, but, regardless of your choice, a gas fireplace will add a completely new dimension to any room of your home.

One of the best benefits of a gas fireplace is the energy efficient manner in which it heats the space in which it is located. When you utilize a fireplace in combination with a prefabricated duct system, which is only allowed if installed during construction of your home, the heat will even travel from room to room.

You will find a gas fireplace delightfully easy to use as well. You can easily turn it on using the remote control or by flipping the on/off switch located on the unit itself. A thermostat allows you to adjust the heat to the perfect temperature. A gas fireplace will often come with a variety of other programmable features that allow you to manage such things as flame height and intensity as well.

Gas fireplaces are, of course, fuelled by propane or natural gas. While you can store the fuel on your property, it will usually be more expensive than wood to do so in many outlying areas. On the plus side, there is no chopping wood! In general, gas fireplaces also require far less maintenance than wood burning ones do, so considering the trade off, a gas-burning one is a great choice!

Whether you choose a realistic-looking, prefabricated ceramic log pile, or the Victorian-style look of coal, the firebox of your gas fireplace will be lined with a material that has the look of stones or brick, just as a wood-burning one would. Many of us would expect a blue, unappealing flame to rise from the gas burning to produce heat, but these will emit flames that look totally natural and give the appearance of burning wood without all the work that would be involved in keeping up with such a messy endeavor.

You will also find that gas fireplaces can be as unique or common as you would like. You can order your fireplace framed in wood, tile, stone or finished stucco; all will fit in with a variety of home designs. Your fireplace will likely become the focal point of your home or patio, so you’ll want to be sure you choose a design and material that works best with the furnishings that surround it. Choose wisely and your gas fireplace will delight and warm you for years to come.

Is it more economical to run your natural gas log fireplace and keep your furnace temperature set lower?

If we run the gas logs on low and keep ceiling fans on it keeps the furnace from running as much. So is this an economical way to heat your house rather then running your furnace all the time?

In my experience the answer is very much to the NO side.

Gas logs are hugely expensive as most of the heat goes up the chimney.

And the draft of a fireplace pulls heat out of a room, even after it is off. Do you have glass doors on it to control the draft?

If you have a built in unit with a fan and to capture and exhaust more of the heat with doors on it then those are a little better, but still costly.

Furnaces are very efficient, gas logs are not at all.
